Santorini, Greece

One of the key places we wanted to visit on our trip was the island of Santorini. The island was formed by a series of massive volcanic eruptions throughout history, which have made the island very geologically unique. For this reason, and the fact that it's so beautiful is why we wanted to go. And so, we arrived on Santorini from Syros after a very long ferry ride that took all day, and stopped at many other islands before reaching our destination. We weren't really sure how to get to our hotel from the port, but after some confusion we finally made it to what turned out to be one of the best places we stayed all trip. Not only was the hotel in the center of the main town, Fira, but the owner, George, was ultra helpful, generous, and kind. Living up to its reputation, the island is super beautiful, but we found it is more orientated to those who arrive on cruise ships, and only stay for short periods at a time; for we found it got slightly boring after a week long stay. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable and we did some cool stuff while we were on the island; such as experience Ohi Day (A Greek Holiday), check out two really cool beaches, go on an excursion to the volcanic island (and get a tour of it from a complete wackjob), walk along the caldera edge to the town of Oia, visit two museums, and hike up to the archeological site of Ancient Thera.
