Capri, Italy

From Terzigno/Pompei, we traveled to Sorrento, to jump on a ferry to the island of Capri. It is a small island with two main towns, Capri, and Anacapri; we stayed in Anacapri at the Hotel Hermes di Bussola where we had the friendliest hosts since Berlin. On the island we went on two hikes; one along the southeast coast, and the other along the west coast which was called the walk of the old forts because of all the old fort ruins left by first the British and then the French in the 19th century. The hiking trails were much different than those at home, as they were paved or stone, though the elevation changes coupled with the heat made them no walk in the park. From Anacapri, we took a chairlift up to the islands highest point, Monte Solaro, which provided good views of the area. On our walk down we found this kinda weird religious place, but it was interesting. Another highlight of the island was the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto), which is a sea cave that glows blue due to the two entrances; one above, and one below the water. On calm days, canoe-sized boats are able to fit thru the small entrance, but if there's even the smallest waves they'd be smashed on the top of the hole. Because it was never calm enough for the boats, we swam in, which isn't really allowed, and is scary because you have to time the pattern of the waves, but is free, and very worth it. I encourage you to google it for more info/pictures 'cause it's really cool. Overall, Capri was super chill, and one of the best places yet, especially due to the delicious breakfasts at the hotel each morning.
