Terzigno, Italy

We stayed in the Italian version of Compton [Terzigno] for two nights, as it was only a ten minute drive (or 52 minute walk while wearing our backpacks) from Pompeii. The streets were full of garbage and stray dogs, and no one in the town spoke English, including most of the staff at our hotel. The hotel was very fancy, and completely out of place in the ghetto of the town. Along with the luxury car rental place on the edge of the hood, the whole town was an oxymoron. To add to the weirdness, both nights there were people lighting off fireworks in town, and down somewhere along the bay of Naples, which you could see from across the street (we were fairly high up).
