Rob and Danielle's Bogus Adventure (Bari)

After Capri, we planned to go from Naples (which sucks by the way) to Brindisi and then from Brindisi to the Greek island of Corfu. Unfortunately, we found that no ferries were leaving Italy going directly to Corfu this time of year. So, the only other option was to take a ferry from an Italian port, to Igoumenitsa, and then from there to Corfu. So after hastily searching train and ferry timetables, we found a train that would arrive in the city of Bari at 19:00, and the only ferry of the day to Igoumenitsa which was to leave at 20:00. And so the bogus adventure began; after a delayed train, and a slow bus, we got to the port of Bari at 19:50, just in time to have the ticket office close in our faces, and the workers tell us to leave and come back tomorrow. We were then able to watch the ferry sit for half an hour before leaving without us, it was great. Now we were stranded in what our travel book describes as "not southern Italy's most appealing city" and "rough around the edges", without a place to stay. To add to the fun, unlike every other port I've seen on this trip, there weren't any hotels on the water front, causing us to wander the cold city (with our heavy backpacks on of course) being repeatedly told by every hotel we could find that they had no vacancy. And so, we ended up walking back to the deserted port and taking shifts sleeping on a bench until the morning finally came. Just kidding, but that is what we thought we were going to have to do, until Danielle suggested that we walk back up and try to find the train station, where we thankfully, as if a gift from above, found a hotel with vacancy. The next day we got ourselves tickets for the same ferry to leave at 20:00 that night, and explored the town of Bari. It was something all right.
